Teak Furniture

The tables in the foreground were made in 2005,  the chairs in 1993. Both have spent every day and night outside since their making, they are as sound as the day of their first service. At the clients request we used a graying oil to accelerate the patina of the tables. These were our first chairs, a consummate challenge to a wood worker. James Krenov once said of chairs “I have yet to muster the gumption.”

These were designed and detailed for outdoor use. There are weep holes in the stiles below the panels and all horizontal surfaces are sloped so water sheds off. All joinery is mortise and tenon, pegged and bonded with two part resorcinol glue. These chairs have taught us well about maintaining discipline and using the right materials and techniques in order that things endure.
