Reproduction of traditional casement wood sash
· Complete analysis of profiles, proportions and function of all elements including sash, glazing, hardware, weather stripping, sills and casing.
o Information gathered from remaining material at project sites as well as neighboring buildings and like architecture elsewhere in the city.
· Sample unit fabricated and or scale drawings completed to model finished product.
· Only solid South American mahogany and or reclaimed domestic broad leaf pine used during fabrication. No contemporary farm growth pine to be used. Exposed end grain and other more vulnerable areas sealed with penetrating epoxy.
· Sash fabricated with traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Meeting rail condition is all wood with interlocking metal weather-strip, no flexible rubber, plastic or vinyl parts.
· Weather-stripping to be Accurate brand tradition zinc interlocking style for durability and authenticity.
· Sill conditions to be improved as possible, correcting slope problems with abrasion
or caps, solid brass interlocking strip to fit into rabbeted sash, to eliminate air infiltration and ogee drip edge applied to exterior face to prevent water infiltration.
● New sash hung on new solid brass ball tip hinges, fit with precision to jams head and
sill with interlocking weather strip at whole perimeter.
· Meeting stiles to have interlocking weather strip with exterior astragal and rabbeted edge.
● Sash to be painted, two finish coats inside and out with Benjamin Moore oil base.
● Both sash held in place with a single action solid brass cremone.
● Glass maybe single pane modern glass or restoration glass with surface variegation
similar to that of the existing historic glass. Whenever possible and desired the
historic glass will be reused. Modern insulating glass panels are also an option with
the interior and exterior molding and glazing profile proportions being
maintained.
● Windows will operate with ease, latch with authority and seal well.
