“My grandfather lived at the Roosevelt in the late 1960's and the family would visit there when I was a
boy. So there's more sentiment here than usual. By the 1980's the structure was a burden owned by the city, but, now
is a part of the U Street revival. Summit Properties restored and will operate the rental housing. They received
significant tax credits for restoring the facade. The windows were a major part of that and so came our role. We
restored all the jambs and sash, remachined for insulating glass, made new weights and installed them with period
hardware and weather strip. The National Park Service, D.C.'s Office of Historic Preservation and the client were
all pleased and the building is now taking tenants.”
