Curves: Druid Lake Reservoir Dam Tower

In the 1860’s a cholera epidemic was threatening Baltimore Maryland. The sound solution was cleaner water, and so the Druid Hill Reservoir was built. At the highest point in the reservoir this tower was built, atop the structure was a telescope, it became an observatory in Maryland’s most important city.

As was true for most of the city, from the middle 20th century to present, decades of neglect took their toll on this structure. Reproductions of the trefoil windows were made from the few shards that remained from the originals. The tower had to be completely disassembled and re-laid in order to correctly  complete the restoration. As part of this culture our company is proud we can redeem monuments like this.

Here is to the sincere hope that social stability, and good maintenance  will keep this symbol, and others like it, sound for centuries.

These shots offer reference to various curving techniques.
An award winning project from the state of Maryland, These trefoil windows were reproductions made for the openings of the Druid Lake Dam tower in Baltimore.
