Insulating Glass Conversion
These are reproduction mahogany sash for a historic structure, with a twist. These sash are made 1 3/4" thick and will receive 1/2" insulating glass. By making the sash thicker, we can maintain all the profiles exactly both inside and out for the original 1 3/8" thick sash. Here "A" is the level for the glass, "B" for the sticking that is profiled like putty to house the glass and "C" is the rabbet for a top sash to fit within the groove of the thinner originals. For the bottom sash we cut the stop bead 3/8" to accommodate the thicker sash, finally new weights are made to complete the nearly seamless conversion to insulating glass.
