Retrofitting Insulating Glass

These drawings describe the aspects involved in retrofitting insulating glass to a narrow mullioned historic window. Where and how the modern glass impacts the profiles of the original window is unique to each job and so this type of drawing is done to clarify what will occur. When complete, the insulating glass contributes to the window's structure and the exterior mullion is bonded to the glass so that the whole mullion reads as one piece. With this type glass conversion and the reuse of the traditional weights, pulleys, metal weather strip, and brass hardware, a historic window's thermal performance can be brought up to that of a modern window.
