Restoration Doors

Generally restoration means fixing what is broken or decayed from the elements or misuse. Other times it's more about undoing something that was willfully done. The quality of craftwork declined significantly after WWII and has only in the last 20 years begun to recover. At these doors near Dupont Circle, bad modern locks were applied instead of repairing the mortice box. The operable side lights were painted shut and a damaged panel was poorly repaired. Set back right and finished with a fine spar varnish, these doors are warm and inviting.
